For those who seek fishing wild trout in wild places, Ardnamurchan
is heaven on earth. Not here, the easy caught farmed fish from a cultured
bank or platform.
Here it is wild fish, cunning and fast, taken amidst the breathtaking
wilderness where eagles soar above and otters and pine martens play.
The Ardnamurchan guest can fish a variety of lochs from large waters
such as Loch Mudle to small, hidden lochs whose names are not to be
found even on an ordnance survey map. Some of the lochs are easily
fished and produce a prolific number of small, but beautiful, wild
trout. Others are harder to tempt but can produce that fish which
lingers long in the memory.
Deer; red, roe and fallow share the lochs shore but move on ahead
of the approaching angler. Often all one sees are their distinctive
footprints on the shoreline sand. The Ardnamurchan lochs can fish
well from early in the season, which begins on 15 March to the season's
end on 6 October.

Hatches of olives, stoneflies and mayflies soon bring activity to
the surface. Forget sunk lines and lures- this is imitative pattern
fishing with lightening fast takes. Small spider patterns or nymph
and winged wets do well early on. Come the month of May, large mayflies
and stonefly hatches give the dry fly enthusiast plenty of scope as
long as the breeze holds.
This sets the scene for the summer months when buzzers proliferate.
Visitors to the area may purchase day fishing permits for 2 of the
hill lochs from a number of places in and around the area including
the village shop, tourist information centre, and local hotel. For
visitors staying in any of the Estate accommodation fishing on all
the hill lochs, rivers, and burns is free of charge.
On each of the three largest lochs we have positioned a small boat,
the hire of which can be arranged through the Kilchoan House Hotel
