Self Catering FAQ...

  • Are Dogs allowed ?
    Yes, by prior arrangement only - well behaved and must get on with other dogs / people.

  • Is there a boat with the property?
    Yes:
    Carna - boat there at all times for exclusive use throughout your stay.
    Laga - should be booked in the same way as if hiring for a boat hire - without the charge.


  • What linen is included?
    All linen, bath and hand towels, tea towels and dishcloths are included. Not included are beach towels or towels to be used outside.

  • What parking is available?
    Off road parking is available on site

  • Can I bring my own boat?
    Yes, mooring / launching facilities available by prior arrangement

  • Can I have part-weeks?
    Only "out of season" at owners discretion - usually between October and April and excluding public holidays.

  • Private water supply - do I need to bring drinking water?
    The water at both Laga Lodge and on the Island of Carna is not chemically treated and has nothing added to it. It tastes beautiful!
    Laga - water is filtered and treated with ultraviolet light and safe to drink.
    Carna – the water is untreated and although it has passed the water purity test (2006) bacterial content could vary and you may wish to bring your own water or to boil water before drinking.


  • Is fishing equipment available?
    Yes, please discuss your requirements with us before your holiday

  • Do you provide fishing tackle & bait?
    Yes, by prior arrangement at cost price.

  • Is there mobile phone coverage?
    None at Laga, on top of the hill on Carna and in the middle of the loch! (from a boat)

  • Is there a Public Telephone near-by?
    There is no public phone but we are happy for anyone to use our phone if needed. (or to receive calls for guests) please just ask.

  • Is there Internet access?
    Yes, but only by prior arrangement.

  • How can I pay?
    Cheque, cash and all major credit / debit cards accepted.

  • Nearest shops, pubs, eating out etc?
    Food & crafts available at Glenmore, Natural History Centre, Kilchoan Community Centre, Good restaurant / bar meals at Salen, The Salen Inn. (5 miles), also Hotel, restaurants, tea room, bakery, shop, Post Office and out door shop are available in Acharacle. (7 miles). Tobermory is good for shopping, local butcher, pubs, restaurants and shops. Ferry available from door Monday & Friday (£10pp, £2 con’s). Shop, post office, fuel and eating out available in Strontian. (Between Corran ferry & Laga.) Nearest large supermarkets Fort William.

  • Where is the nearest petrol / fuel / garage?
    Car fuel - Strontian, 30 mins away. Vehicle repairs - Loch Sheil Garage, Acharacle

  • Where is the nearest available diving air?
    Seafare,Tobermory, Isle of Mull. Tel. 01688 302277

  • Do you have a smoking policy?
    Our houses are all non smoking. - smoking is permitted out doors but please dispose of cigarette ends safely and in a bin.

  • Are the Lodge and cottage on Carna suitable for disabled people?
    Access to both Laga and Carna involves steep and uneven steps making the properties unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems. if unsure please telephone or e mail us to discuss your requirements.

  • Is local shellfish available?
    Yes, can be caught in the loch and eaten and also can be purchased nearby.

  • Where can I get more information about local produce?
    Follow the link to Lochaber food & crafts.

  • Are there medical and dental services locally?
    Yes, The Pines Medical Centre, Acharacle 01967 431231, www.pinesmedicalcentre.co.uk and dental services, Mr K.Gill, Top Shop Surgery, Tel. 01967 431432.
