Transfers
You will normally travel to the island onboard Charter boat "Laurenca".
Luggage will need to be carried along a pontoon at Glenborrodale and
on arrival at the island. It is therefore much easier if foodstuff etc
is packed in large plastic boxes or something sturdy and easily handled.
Try not to have everything in small supermarket carrier bags as they
tend to split and spill very easily.
Shopping
We can arrange to have groceries delivered to the cottage for your arrival.
Please telephone, e mail or fax your list to us beforehand. Groceries
can also be delivered to the island on Mondays & Fridays via the ferry
service. There are local shops and Hotels for eating out on Ardnamurchan
at Acharacle, Salen and Kilchoan. To travel on the ferry please book
with us at least 1 day before. Pick up on Carna is at 9.15am. Depart
Tobermory for home at 5pm. There is also a lovely walk from Drimnin
to Doirlin on Morvern which can be done on ferry days.
In Tobermory there are a Co-op, a good local butcher, bakery and delicatessen
as well as various other shops, pubs and restaurants.
Useful information
We are a small established family business offering accommodation, Charter
Boat and self drive boat hire on Loch Sunart.
On Mondays and Fridays we operate a community ferry service connecting
Laga and the surrounding area with Tobermory on Mull and Drimnin on
Morvern.
During the summer months we run regular trips to the Treshnish Isles
and Whale watching trips.
Isolation is not complete on the island as we provide a VHF radio for
daily contact and emergency use. There are full written instructions
and we will ensure you are completely happy with using the radio before
being left.
We are less than 10 minutes away by boat if you need assistance.
The boat provided for your use is a 16ft open boat with an outboard
engine, it carries 6 people & includes life jackets and safety equipment.
There is a pontoon on Carna for landing and we will instruct you in
the use of the boat and engine.
We can provide fishing rods free of charge but not terminal gear (weights
& feathers etc) either bring your own or we can supply them at cost
price.
Fish to be caught in the loch include pollock, coalfish, ling, congar,
cod, dogfish, wrasse, skate (204llbs caught in 2003) rays, spurdog and
mackerel.
